The Maheno wreck, as seen from air

The major landmark on Fraser island, SS Maheno was built in Scotland in 1905 as luxury passenger liner. By 1935, the ship has been taken out of service and was sold to Japanese ship breaker. Unfortunately, on 25 June 1935, she was caught in a strong cyclone while being towed. The towline broke and on 9 July 1935, she became beached on the easter coast of the island.
