Living in Jakarta, the kids get less and less exposed to triathlon. I would say almost no triathlon is organised for kids here. We have to put more effort for them to participate in races overseas before they slowly losing that sporty competitive spirit.

Here’s a couple of shots of them finishing the swimming leg during Aquathlon, which is part of Metasprint Series in Singapore on 8 February.

All are shot with Canon 50D, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L

Not a very good shot of my 10-year-old son, who is obviously super happy finishing his first 10k trail run race :-).

On this last Sunday of 2014, we had our weekly ritual of horseback riding. I love this particular shot, as it comes out so clear, yet the action still could be seen from the dust / sand flying around, left by the horses legs.

My little one insisted on wearing his GoPro Camera (on his helmet), a gift from his grandparents from his last birthday 3 weeks ago.

Shot with Canon 50D, Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II, shot in AV @ 1/2500, f/1.8, ISO 500

Western riding is something relatively new for my husband, but he got a hang of it quite fast I must say.

Taken at Seaworld, Gold Coast, when this athlete / entertainer was having (what I assumed) a practice ride (or trial?) in between shows. I was standing at a wrong spot, but had I moved to the other side which MIGHT be better, I would have missed the moment. So please excuse the busy non-isolated background.

My favourite shot of the whole running leg. I managed to capture Ji Jeong Hwan from Korea (finishes 9th), in which his upper body looks perfectly clear and still, while his legs are levitating and blurry, showing the speed.

project365day123-2

I was sitting on the ground at the other side of the road trying to capture Dickson Tam from Hong Kong (finishes 10th), when at the same time a car passed by right in front of me, making the picture looking like as if he was head to head with it.

Again, trying to capture that split second when the athletes are up in the air, above are from the elite women group :  Yuka Sato from Japan (finishes 2nd), Hoi Long from Macau (finishes 7th) and Chen Wei Chien from Taipei (finishes 11th).

Help your brother’s boat across, and your own will reach the shore – Hindu proverb

They occasionally fight, both verbally and physically. But when the time comes that they do need each other and they still DO help each other, then I think it’s brotherhood.

Dismounting

One of very crucial moments in any triathlon is the transition. T1, where the athletes are transitioning from swimming to cycling and T2 is where the athletes are transitioning from cycling to running.

During T1, you might have heard of flying mount, whereby they run and mount their moving bicycle, just like a cowboy jumping onto a galloping horse.

project365day79-1

Dismounting on kiddie triathlon

Both feet are out of the shoes

Both feet are out of the shoes

One leg behind another on one side of the bike

One leg behind another on one side of the bike

Before approaching T2, they remove both feet from their shoes and continue pedalling. Closer to the dismount line, they swing one leg over the bicycle so its position is behind the other leg on one side of the bicycle. At the dismount line they are then totally off the bike and running to the transition area for their running leg.

When every second counts, proper method of transitioning can save a lot of time for the athletes.

These are some pictures which I captured during 2nd Talisay Triathlon Race last Sunday, 17 March 2013.

All were shot with Canon 50D, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L

I realised that watching kids soccer match can be as nerve racking as watching real adult ones, particularly if your child is in the team :-). These little 8 year old kids are as serious in striking, defending and scoring as any professional players. Here are some of those moments.

XTerra Off Road Triathlon at Liloan, Cebu

I learnt that it’s not that easy to take good pictures during off road triathlon. The course / track is so spread out, without any repeated loops, making it more difficult to get a ‘perfect’ spot. Here are just some pictures from the swim leg, which luckily (for me) is split into 2x750m with a short run in between.
